Food review: Navratra Thali at Punjab Grill

Sumptuous thali for people fasting this Navratri

Navratri thali

When we think of Vrat Khana, we think of home food. Usually over fried things like potato, potato and some more potato! It can get a bit too boring and repetitive. In our quest to try sinfully delicious and spectacular looking Vrat food we went to try the amazing Navratra Thali at Punjab Grill. While Punjab Grill is something I prefer for my non vegetarian cravings, the navratra thali comes as a surprise. Rich, flavourful and decadent, it is a must try for people who observe the fast.

Here are the reasons why you need to try this thali and that too, soon.

Decor

Punjab Grill is located on the top floor of the Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar and in fact it is my choice for great Indian food on weekends. As it is the only Indian fine dining place in the mall. With its sophisticated and pretty ambiance, it makes Punjab grill an ideal choice for family gatherings or a quiet date.

Food

Since we do not eat onion, non vegetarian  and a horde of other foods in navratri we decided to try their navratri special. Their Special Navratra Thali will make you look differently at Vrat ka food. The presentation of the food is beautiful and very royal.

A rich royal golden brass thali decorated with ample food for two is served to you. The thali comprises of Vrat Lassi, Dahi Wale Aloo, Sukhi Arbi, Khatta Meetha Kaddu, Khoya Paneer, Aloo Singhada Dahi Wada, Samak ka Pulao, Rajgira ki Puri, Makhane ki Kheer and Kesari Rasmalai.

The Vrat lassi hits the sweet spot in this sweltering summer with makhane and cardmom flavoured sweet lassi, it is a standout! In the mains I tried the Rajgirah ki poori for the first time and it was crispy. In the veggies I fell in love with the khatte Dahi Wale Aloo, rich decadent Khoya Paneer. The only drawback, I felt the thali needed a tomato curry for the rice or a chutney to along with the starters, but that is my personal opinion. The desserts had me fall in love! From the rich makhane ki kheer to the sinfully yummy kesari rasmali.

To end the meal on a great note, they served us a pan shot which is an absolute winner. Most of the items in thali are available in à la carte menu too. A special mention to the well informed staff and the humble chef.
