Kerala Kettuvalam Fish Curry

Ingredients

King fish chunks 4cm                      gm          600

Fenugreek seeds                             gm          3

Chopped onions                               gm          300

Ginger                                              gm              20

Garlic                                                 gm              15

Red chilly powder                         gm             7

Turmeric powder                             gm          5

Kodumpulli tamarind                      gm          30

Coconut oil                                        ml            50

Curry leaves                                      gm           5

Method

1.            Heat the oil in pan, immediately add mustard seeds do not burn it or they would get bitter.

2.            Add ginger garlic to it, cook it to golden brown .

3.            Add chopped onions , cook till brown .

4.            Add chilly powder and turmeric powder

5.            Add tamarind water and pulp to the curry

6.            Add fish chunks and let it cook

7.            Add salt to taste , garnish it with curry leaves and serve it hot with kerala rice.

Ingredients

Prawns                    gm       500

Turmeric powder   gm    5

Green chilli               gm    5

Kokum                        gm    2

Onion slices             gm     100

Oil                                ml      100

Curry paste ingredients                                                                               

Grated coconut                                gm          125

Red chilly whole               gm          5

Dry coriander                     gm          5

Cloves                                 gm            3

Cumin seeds                      gm          5

Ginger                                gm            10

Garlic                                  gm             3

Salt                                     to taste

Water                               ml               500

 

Method

1.            Prepare the curry paste with specified ingredients , grind it to a smooth paste.

2.            Marinate the prawns with salt and turmeric , leave it for five minutes.

3.            Pour oil in a pan add sliced onion , saute it , lightly brown .

4.            Add prawn curry paste , add water  , to the prawns.

5.            As prawns get cooked  , add kokum and sliced halves of green chilli

6.            Add salt to taste, cook it well .

7.            Serve hot with goan rice .
