A 20-year-old Boston University sophomore has won the Miss Universe crown 2012 bringing the title back to the United States for the first time in over a decade. It’s the eighth time an American has won the beauty pageant.
Olivia Culpo was chosen by a 10-judge panel and beat out 88 other beauty queens to take the title from Leila Lopes of Angola.
Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon, was the runner-up and Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, came third.
The two hour event was held at Planet Hollywood casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
