Put an end to violence against women

Daughter of legendary sitarist Ravi Shankar has invited one billion women and those who love them, via the website Change.org, to walk out, “Dance, rise up, and demand” an end to violence this Valentine’s Day.

The campaign ‘One Billion Rising’ is a promise that we will rise up with women and men worldwide to say, ‘Enough! The violence ends now.

The 31-year-old sitarist  now living in  London herself suffered sexual and emotional abuse as a child for several years at the hands of a man her parents trusted implicitly, “Growing up, like most women I know, I suffered various forms of groping, touching, verbal abuse and other things I didn’t know how to deal with, I didn’t know I could change,” she said in the video on the website.

The One Billion Rising Campaign (OBR) is a global campaign. It is an invitation to talk, use songs, and other forms of communications to ensure that women are free from any form of threat, abuse, sexual violence, sexual harassment
