With the alarming levels of pollution in the air, as a mother I’m terribly scared. Added to my personal history of asthma it is a scare for me every time I screen Delhi’s pollution levels. When Team AAW had the privilege to meet the Global VP for Xiaomi Hugo Barra and understand the Mi Air Purifier our first question was, How will we know if it is working on pollution?

Now Xiaomi thinks ahead of the line, they have a specific app called the Mi Home which not only screens the air around you, it senses the PM levels of a particular room. “Air pollution is becoming an alarming public health concern in India. It is heartening to see more conversation around the situation, but there is still a big gap when it comes to consumer awareness. We believe that we are able to play a role in increasing awareness about air pollution by including AQI data into our MIUI Weather app, and by introducing Mi Air Purifier 2 to India. At this game-changing price, Mi Air Purifier 2 is set to disrupt the air purifier category in India, enabling us to bring these technological innovations to everyone.”

The Air Purifier is sleek, makes no sound and has parental controls on my phone. This helps me the most as a mother to a toddler who thinks switching off button is his job!  The machine is completely child proof and I surely can vouch for the same, as my tot has tried to hanker it, out of morbid curiosity.

Thankfully once the parental controls are on he cannot do much about it. The Air Purifier was exceptionally useful post cooking tadka in the kitchen. Yes, you read that right. So at the meet Hugo did talk about how the oils while cooking become particulate matter or PM which can be harmful. Attached is a screenshot showing how high the PM of my own room which is adjacent to the kitchen had risen alarmingly.

The other big help this was when the baby got poorly with a respiratory congestion. The purifier helped keep the air in the room controlled and clean this helped in my son’s quicker recovery. The Xiaomi Mi2 Air purifier doesn’t take up a lot of power, probably lesser than the charging of your phone.  And it is practically noise-free and you can sleep without any jarring sounds of a fan, even though it has a high power on inside.

The inner filter has to be replaced every six months and the smart app on the phone can tell you when you need to change it.
