Food Review: Pollo Tropical, DLF Place Saket

Pollo Tropical, DLF Place Saket
Food at Pollo Tropical, DLF Place Saket

On a weekend trip to DLF Place, Saket I was super hungry. Shopping does that to me! Most places had a waiting period of over an hour and all I wanted was some caesar salad and a nice place to sit. We went to Pollo Tropical as their banner suggested that nothing is fried and its fast food!

Sounds yummy non-fried, healthier fast food and we entered a bit sceptically as I believe when you are hungry you will get great or horrible food. Now Pollo Tropical is a new entry to the heard of eateries at DLF Place, Saket’s restaurant block.

As you go on the link road between the mall and restaurant block, Pollo Tropical is hard to miss with its cheery red and yellow facade. Pollo Tropical is a branch of a popular fast food chain from Miami and this is their first restaurant in India, they plan to open many more.

We also had an opportunity to visit their kitchens and the staff says a kitchen tour is open to all. Pollo Tropical is true to their word there is no deep fryer in the kitchen, all their food is grilled on grills specially imported from America. Pollo Tropical’s kitchen also boasts of a completely different vegetarian and non vegetarian sections and utensils.

Pollo Tropical goes by the tagline fresh, grilled, and healthy. And we must say it is super tasty too.

Food: Pollo Tropical has a limited menu but its fresh and mostly grilled. There are combos for grilled chicken and paneer for vegetarians. Their paneer is not your average quality, they get it specially made for the restaurant and it is the creamiest paneer we have ever had.

Price: The place is reasonable priced and there are many combos which you can select.

Meal for Two: About 600 INR.

Ambience: Pollo Tropical is colourful and perfect to take your family for a quick fast food option. Its super clean and the has a minimalistic no fuss decor which is perfect for fast food joints. They have a separate party area too.

Must Try: The menu consists of grilled chicken with many options for side and grilled paneer for veggies. They also make amazing wraps, salads and burgers. The caeser salad is fresh, crisp and not overloaded with toppings. What shines through each dish is their grilled paneer or chicken, its juicy, well marinated and not overloaded with oil!  We loved the chicken burger, the patty of the burger is not processed meat-deep fried patty but a juicy piece of grilled chicken topped with veggies.

We tried the quesadilla wrap which was filling, and had a perfect blend of sauces and chicken. For drinks we ordered a Strawberry Tropichiller which is ice blended shake and tastes heavenly. Their baked potato wedges we so good that we asked for a kitchen tour to see if they were fried!

Their sauces deserve a special mention, they have five signature sauces which are made specially to suit Indian tastebuds. The cilantro garlic suce is fresh and desi, the carrieb pinapple was my favourit its sweet and chilly, Spicy poyo poyo is much like red chilli sauce, fresh Mexican salas was fresh and tangy, the curry mustard was unlike all mustard sauces it was creamy with only a slight hint if mustard minus the tang.

Their classic dessert is Tres Leches which is a signature dish and is made of three types of milk. It is a heavenly, scrumptious dessert. The kinds you will fight for the last bite!

Rating: 4.5/5

Would I visit again? Yes, Pollo Tropical is fast food with a conscience and it’s like indulging without sinning!
