The use of natural oil to improve lackluster hair has always been a practice in India but recently with the coming in of unique elixir style oils the trend has skyrocketed. With so many different brands, varieties and results, it’s difficult to know which to try. So we at AAW tried and compiled a short guide to help your decide which oil to pick.
Moroccan Oil
Moroccan oil for hair was the first designer elixir to hit the market and it is an emollient that rejuvenates hair. Moroccan oil also helps to strengthen hair follicles and reduce frizziness. If your hair is prone to breakage Moroccan oil will relieve you. Using Moroccan oil for hair prior to using heat on hair helps as it adds moisture to the damaged hair. This hair oil works on hair shafts to improve hair health.
Argan Oil
Argan oil (Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil) is one of the most popular hair oils on the market and often called ‘liquid gold’. It is derived from the kernels of the argan tree, well known in Morocco. It contains Omega 9, Oleic, Linoleic, Vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids. Numerous hair brands have adopted their own unique style to this best-selling hair oil. Argan oil is usually amber in color, this oil works well as a pre-blow dry or using a hair iron as it helps to seal the hair cuticle while nourishing and providing a smooth texture.
Macadamia Oil
Macadamia oil (Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil) is derived from macadamia nuts, which is a Australian native oil. This miracle oil has luscious restoring properties for your locks. It’s designed to smooth and shine while providing UV protection and reducing drying time. Macadamia oil products usually combines both macadamia oil and argan oil as macadamia oil on its own is very lightweight, so by combining the oils, their power and positive results increase.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is known for being a multi-purpose essential. In India it has been used since ages. Coconut is a hydrophobic oil that repels water. It a great pre-wash hair treatment as it prevents water from absorbing into each strand and reduces breakage. It is also known for decreasing dandruff, eliminating lice, fighting frizz, providing protein to the hair and encouraging regrowth for longer, stronger hair.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is not sold on a hair care product but is one of nature’s top emollients and penetrates deeper than other oils, and is lightweight. It’s a great choice for girls with allergies, sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp because I doesn’t cause allergic reactions. Olive oil contains Vitamin E, which acts as a powerful antioxidant for hair growth.
