Tips and tricks to apply eyeliner

Eyeliner is back in vogue after being shunned for the kohl look for many years. It’s one of happening looks this season, just line your upper eyes and look pretty. From exaggerated  wings  to a soft flick or a smudged pencil line we at AAW decided to find the best products to pep up your eyes:

Felt-tip pens:

If you have just started applying eyeliner and want to experiment try a pen with a felt tip. It is the easiest method of application. Felt-tip pens are versatile and good for drawing a medium thick line, the tip ensures you can get a nice wing to your liner.

Products to try: Colourbar Ultimate Eye Liner offers the perfect line. Oriflame felt tip liner works well but looks uneven on the eye. Deborah eyeliner is dramatic and gives you that fresh look. Lakme Eye Artist Eyeliner Pen is a liquid pen-style eyeliner and is easier to apply with more precision than a brush. Some felt tip pens have a fine nib and are available in many colours like black, blue, dark green, purple, brown and grey.

Pencils:

For a more dramatic, defined look, pencils are the most flexible option. You can draw a line or build it up to heavier and smudgy look. Pencils come in a myriad of colours. From Chocolate browns, navy and charcoal to turquoise, purples and golds. All leading cosmetic brands offer these.

Products to try
We love ultra-thin, twist-up pencil as they create a precise line all brands from Maybelline to Loreal to high-end brands like MAC and Lancome create these. Maybelline is perfect for daily use while the Bobbi Brown one s a gel based liner in pencil form which looks lovely. Another less expensive options Rimmel Kohl includes a twist up pencil with a sharpener and comes with a smudger.

Gel eyeliner:

Gels are a great choice if you want a long-lasting effect and a stark deep colour. But gels require skill and patience when you apply them. Gel liner has great staying power, making it the best choice for everyday make-up.

Products to try: For beginners try the eyestudio by Maybelliene or go high end with MAC Fuildline, I promise you would never go back. The only disadvantage is that you need to buy a good eyeliner brush and wash it post application.

Liquid eyeliner:

Probably the oldest style of liner, liquid eyeliners take the time to dry and look shiny. A presise application is a must to get the perfect look.

Products to try: Try the Lotus one, or buy any liquid liner that is water resistant. The oldest is Lakme eyeliner, we all saw our mums use it and tried it at weddings and functions. The only con? Well, it’s in a glass bottle prone to breakage. However the new plastic tube variants are a lot better and the liner from Sugar, Nykaa are my best friends!

Eyeliner application style for beginners

STEP 1: Tilt your face upwards and raise your eyebrows. Now your lid is fully extended and you can see the line where the lashes grow.  This is where you have to apply your liner.

STEP 2: Rest your elbow on a table top or your mirror to steady your hand during application. Work from the mid eyelid to the outer eyelid with a flick first and then cover your inner eye.

STEP 3: Don’t overload your brush, wipe off the excess liner you can always thicken the line later.
