The trailer of Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par was unveiled on Tuesday evening, marking his return to the big screen after a three-year hiatus. The film was intended as a celebration of Aamir’s signature storytelling style. However, controversy erupted shortly after the trailer launch, when his production house shared a delayed message applauding the armed forces for Operation Sindoor.

Aamir Khan Productions took to Instagram to congratulate the nation and the military for India’s retaliatory strike against terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, following the Pahalgam terror attack. The post read:
“Saluting the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for his leadership and resolve. Jai Hind.”
Since Aamir is no longer active on social media, such messages are typically posted through his official production house account. While many fans welcomed the gesture, others criticized the timing, pointing out that the operation had taken place over a week earlier. Critics accused the actor of using patriotism to promote his upcoming film.

By Thursday morning, #BoycottAamirKhan was trending on Twitter (now X), with users calling out the post as opportunistic. One user wrote, “This 🐍 broke his ‘maun vrat’ just to promote his movie #SitaareZameenPar.” Another tweeted, “Because the trailer was dropping today, he suddenly remembered to praise the army. Too late.”

Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, is positioned as the spiritual successor to the 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. Produced under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, the film introduces ten fresh faces — Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma. Aamir Khan plays the role of a basketball coach who trains a team of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The film also features Genelia D’Souza in a prominent role and is scheduled to release on June 20.
