Couple Hosts Metaverse Wedding Reception

Dinesh SP and his fiancé Janaganandhini Ramaswam met on social media and fell in love. With a lot of hurdles, they convinced their family and got married. And, nowadays when Metaverse technology is making the headlines, the couple hosted their wedding reception through it at their loveable location, Hogwarts Castle. After their traditional humble wedding in Tamil Nadu’s Sivalingapuram, they were joined by about 6,000 people from around the world for their virtual reception ceremony. It has been dubbed as the first Metaverse wedding reception in Asia.

Pandemic was a testament to the fact that people can better socialize online being physically distant and in the subtle post-pandemic world, Metaverse has given an extra edge to people’s online socializing. It’s a new universe populated with real people where Janaganandhini during her wedding reception created an avatar of her late father and she wanted to feel his presence during her special day. The couple decided to have a Metaverse reception to avoid physical-social gatherings and considered it as the safest yet most entertaining and lively way.


Dinesh is a project associate in IIT Madras and his fiancé is a software developer who believed that Metaverse is an interesting way of bringing people close and together.
