After months of festival screenings, this year’s Oscar season finally got real when the Academy awards announced the final roster of nominees. As always, there were a number of pleasant surprises, plus a much larger number of shocking omissions. Nominations for the 88th Annual Academy Awards were declared Thursday morning during an exceptional two-part news conference that took place in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, directors Guillermo Del Toro & Ang Lee and actor John Krasinski took turns unveiling which actors, cinematographers, animators, costume designers, documentarians, directors, makeup artists, producers, production designers, musicians, screenwriters, sound editors, sound mixers and visual effects editors are being honored for films released in the year 2015. The Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC at 7 pm ET.
