People Protest against cutting trees for Dehradun Airport

The Uttarakhand government has proposed to cut 10,00 trees for the expansion of Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport that has tarted another Chipko movement.

The construction of the new Dehradun Airport will result in cutting down 10,000 trees from the area around Rajaji National Park Eco-Sensitive Zone and environmentalists are protesting.

This will not only remove so many trees from the ecological reserve but will also affect the wildlife in the area. Many people came to protest and this resulted in the recreation of the Chipko Movement that took place in 1973.

Here are some pictures from the protest and how people stood up for this:

The idea has only been proposed until now but people are well aware that environmental issues are already on the rise.
