The trailer of the film Mardaani starring Rani Mukherji is out. Rani is playing the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy of Crime Branch, Mumbai, trying to track down a human trafficking racket.
The trailer begins with a stats figure, “India is the world’s hub for child sex trafficking…Nearly 40,000 children are abducted every year…Every 8 minutes a girl child goes missing in India!”
In the beginning of the trailer a montage of graphic scenes showing young girls being traded, molested and forced into prostitution is shown. However later the trailer shifts its focus to Mukerji playing a tough cop.
Directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film will release worldwide on 22nd August 2014.
