Women who actually redefined feminism

The half population is now in a way better position than it used to be. Today we do not require making a call for gender equality as we are already walking with utmost power in our hands and minds. But, not to forget, there were women who took the first step and paved the way for others. Here is the list of women who did their part (small or big) for making the world a better place to live:

Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu (November 10, 1887 – November 25, 1973)

Elisa was the first woman engineer in the world. She finished her graduation in 1912 from Royal Technical Academy, Berlin. She was also the first female member of A.G.I.R (General Association of Romanian Engineers). Since 1993, a street in Bucharest is named after her.

Katherine Switzer (January 5, 1947-present)

Katherine is an American television commentator and author. But she is known for her rebellious entry in Boston Marathon in the year 1967. She was dejected fiercely by her unofficial running coach when Switzer initiated to run in Boston Marathon as no women did this before. But, after all odds she somehow (after a little physical violence) managed to get entry and ran without putting-off her lipstick.

Benazir Bhutto (June 21, 1953 – December 27, 2007)

Benazir Bhutto was first democratically elected female Prime Minister of an Islamic nation Pakistan. The eldest child of former leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir brought electricity to the whole country and constructed various schools. Housing, hunger and education were her top priorities. She was assassinated in 2007 by a suicide bomber.

Annette Kellerman (June 6, 1886- November 6, 1975)

Annette is indeed a record breaker, a best-selling author and also a film star. But in her own eyes (and ours too), her greatest achievement is popularizing a fitted one-piece swimming costume. You won’t believe, she was arrested for spreading indecency. She was a ground-breaker when female roles were limited. I think we should thank her for getting dressed as we desire to.

Maria Teresa De filippis (November 11, 1926 – January 8, 2016)

We recently lost our first female formula one driver. Yes, Maria was the first one (female) who competed in a Formula 1 grand prix on May 18, 1958. Also, she is to take part in a round of the world championship (and still one out of 2). She started her racing career when she was just 22, her speed was tremendous, this makes Maserati hire her as their driver. She was also among one of the founders of Maserati Club in the year 2004 and lead as a chairman.

I think our heroines need at least a share . . . maybe a new heroine is waiting there for some inspiration!
