Smart eating can actually help you lose weight quicker. Though dieting is a good idea but it does not promise results always. Follow these cheat tips to get more out of your diet.

The quarter plate: Those huge dinner plates are the number 1 culprit for overeating. Over the years the plate sizes have changed in India; from the ancient thalis with small bowls to big plates with equally big bowls. So get a quarter plate and small to medium sized bowls for dinner. Even if you fill your plate your portion size will not go up.

No second helpings: This is the best way to control portion sizes. If you are extremely hungry go ahead and fill your plate with salad and veggies. Having fiber will help you fill up quickly without piling too many pounds. Steer clear of rotis, gravy foods, pickles and papads.  Before eating always mentally divide your plate in two halves, fill one half with salads and dry veggies. Divide the second half onto two quarters one must have your roti or rice and the other dal or lean meat.

Do not set the table: Eating at a well-set table is a fun family thing. But often sitting in a relaxed environment makes women overeat. The best way: serve directly from the kitchen. The better way is to keep the cooked vegetables, salad and curd on the table. Keep the curries, pickles, rotis and meats in the kitchen.

Never skip breakfast: Time and again health experts have explained that skipping breakfast increases the weight. When you skip breakfast you will end up eating more at lunchtime, because the body has been deprived of food for more than 12 hours. Grab some curd and fruit if you do not have the patience to cook and have breakfast. Museli and fat free milk are an excellent choice too.

Of glasses and spoons: For alcoholic and calorie laden drinks use tall slim glasses. The wide ones look small and give the drinker less satisfaction. So you end up drinking more. Using wide spoons increases the portion sizes as you tend to shove more into your moth per spoon! Use a small spoon (a tea spoon is a good idea too) as it will take you longer to finish your food.
