Navaratri vrat recipe: Samak roti

Samak chawal roti
Samak chawal roti

Samak chawal is a common fasting food. We got bored of the Kuttu puri and roti fare daily. So on a trip to the grocers I came across Samak or swank chaval atta. It is widely available and tastes better and lighter than Kuttu roti. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

1 cup samak atta
3 boiled and grated potatoes (boil them at least 2-3 hours in advance)
Salt and red chilli powder according to taste
1 spoon malai (optional)
Water
Olive oil or ghee for frying

Method

Make a dough by mixing the atta, grated potatoes, salt, red chilli powder and malai. Add water to make the dough. The dough will be soft.

Heat a tawa well.

Make a small ball from the dough and now make a roti by pressing the dough with your hands. Do not mind the shape. Just make sure its as thick as a parantha or it might break.

Now fry the roti with the oil and cook like a paratha. Serve with raita.
