Movie Review: Satya 2

A still from Satya 2
A still from Satya 2

More than 15 years after Satya changed our perception of underworld and gangsters, Ram Gopal Varma makes an attempt to recreate the Satya magic and it just waters down as a miserable attempt. Satya 2 does nothing except lessen Ram Gopal Varma’s own legacy.

Our Rating: 1.5/5
Starring: Sharvanand, Mahesh Thakur, Mrunal Jain, Anaika Soti, Puneet Singh Ratn

Directed by: Ram Gopal Varma

Music: The nine tracks are composed by Nitin Raikwar, Sanjeev-Darshan, Kary Arora and Shree D and lyrics by Moied Elhaam, Nitin Raikwar, Kumaar, Sonny Ravan and Shree D but all of them are below average and can’t beat Sayta’s cult tracks like Sapne mein milta hia.

Story: Satya 2 tries to mix real and reel life into a heady cocktail with gangsters and Maoists coming together and a top-notch gangster trying to cleanse the society. As plot goes Satya 2 is far too serious and the newbies hardly do justice to their roles.

Satya shows a bird’s eye view of Mumbai (albeit all ugly places). It shows that Mumbai underworld with the help of builder Lahoti (Mahesh Thakur) wants to replace the main ‘system’ and build his own. But the violence in the film, much like the story is stale.

Why you should go for Satya 2: RGV is best known for his camera shots so you will see his favourite under the table shots and the eagle eye camera style used in many shots. You see the camera moving smoothly in between skyscrapers and that gives you a great aerial view of the city(which is not pleasing).

The actors look (act) hilarious at parts unintended. PS the evil of the society portrayed by a Rajdeep Sadesai lookalike and his killing shows RGV’s hate towards the guy! You can only watch this movie if you are a die hard RGV fan or want to kill some time.

Why you should miss Satya 2: The awkward leads Puneet Singh Ratn and Anaika Soti do not have screen appeal infact Anaika’s vague teen turned sexy act are anything but erotic! Forget the lead, the supporting cast too provides no support.

Many eons ago RGV knew his game, Satya was probably the highest point of his career but Satya 2 is anything but. With poor acting, a half baked plot the film is a dud.
