Movie review: Yaariyan

Yaariyan
Yaariyan

Here comes teen bopper romance with all the rom-com prettiness ala beautiful woman, hot hunks, picturesque locations and a college backdrop. So here’s how debutante director Divya Khosla Kumar’s Yaariyan fares:

Cast:  Himansh Kohli, Serah Singh, Nicole Faria, Dev Sharma, Rakul Preet, Evelyn Sharma, Sayali Bhagat, Deepti Naval, Gulshan Grover

Director: Divya Khosla Kumar

Rating:  0.5/5

Music: With five ace music maestros the music of the film stands out.  Pritam, Mithoon, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Anupam Amod and Ariko Pravo Mukherjee compose a medley of interesting tracks. Yaariyan has all the ingredients to make one amazing soundtrack. However, only a few songs are worth listening; and many are passable.

Sunny Sunny, by Yo Yo Honey Singh is already immensely popular and topping many charts. Baarish is a meaningful song with poignant lyrics. Even the remix version by DJ Shiva is fun. The ABCD – Yaariyan song is silly and personally we are not fond this song.

Story:  The story begins in Sikkim and is told by a worthless young lad Lakshya whose aim is to kiss a girl. He is the son of a deceased army officer,  hates patriotism and has a good-for-nothing group of friends. (remember Main Hoon Na? anyone).

Things start moving when the college principal picks them for a competition with an Australian college and losing would mean forfeiting their college grounds to the Australian folks. And the story is about how the struggle to succeed.

Why you should watch Yaariyan: Can’t think of any reason except the songs!

Why should miss Yaariyan: There is no valid reason for you to watch Divya Khosla Kumar’s Yaariyan. It dull, boring, pathetic and amateurish the Hollywoood take on the film makes it more unbearable to watch. Who star?

Every actor is wasted in the film terribly including Deepti Naval and Gulshan Grover!

Special mention:  Don’t watch, an avoidable film. You might want to go for the empty theaters and making out!
