As the world watches Tom and Katie’s marriage dissolve, questions about Tom’s religious faith are being asked. Many leading newspapers and magazines blame scientology for the breaking up of their fabled marriage.
Reports suggest that Katie is divorcing Tom to protect their daughter Suri from following the religion. And others say she feels scientologists are stalking her. Tom is a staunch believer of a religion called Scientology.
Scientology is a set of beliefs written by a sci-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, as Wikipedia defines it as the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The organization believes that man is an immortal being whose experience extends beyond one lifetime and the body can take pain as the soul is not getting harmed.
Katie converted to the religion before she married Tom. Several gossip dailies also suggested that Katie was made to attend several boot camps to make her confer to the religion. And the though of sending her six-year-old daughter to a similar boot camp has scared Katie.
Scientology has been in news for many wrong reasons. Tom Cruise is a firm believer; in fact he is supposed to be the second most powerful member. Scientology extracts millions of dollars from its followers. Though the Church of Scientology is banned inAustralia, based on a report which suggested that the cult relied on hypnosis. It has had its share of legal cases in the US too, but after recent court decisions it is a tax-exempt religion. It is looked upon as a cult in many countries.
