Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Cafe Responds After Surrey Shooting by Babbar Khalsa

Kap’s Cafe, owned by Indian comedy icon Kapil Sharma, has strongly condemned the firing incident that occurred outside its Surrey, Canada location at approximately 1:50 AM (local time) on Thursday.

In an emotional Instagram story shared on Friday, the cafe stated:
“A message from the heart — We started Kap’s Cafe with a vision to create a space filled with warmth, community, and joy through great coffee and heartfelt conversations.”
The statement continued, “To have that dream disrupted by violence is truly heartbreaking. We are still processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”

The cafe also thanked well-wishers for their support:
“Your kind words, prayers, and shared memories in our DMs mean more than you know. This café exists because of your belief in what we’re building together.”

Reaffirming its commitment to community values, the post added:
“Let’s stand united against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a symbol of warmth and togetherness. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you again soon — under better skies. With hope and gratitude. #SupportKapsCafeCanada”

The cafe concluded by extending heartfelt thanks to the Surrey Police and Delta Police Department (@deltapd) for their swift response and efforts to ensure public safety during the disturbing incident — which reportedly left behind 10 bullet holes.

What happened? 

Multiple gunshots were reported outside Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, Canada, at around 1:50 AM (local time) on Thursday, according to the Surrey Police Service. The cafe, owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, had staff members present at the time of the incident, though thankfully, no injuries were reported.

On Thursday morning, at least 10 bullet holes were visible in one of the cafe’s windows, while another glass pane appeared to be shattered.

Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton, spokesperson for the Surrey Police, confirmed that investigators are aware of claims in Indian media suggesting a Khalistani separatist has taken responsibility for the attack. However, he emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, and potential connections to other incidents and motives are still being examined.

As of now, police have not identified a suspect, and the motive remains unclear, according to the Vancouver Sun. Officers are continuing to interview witnesses and analyze CCTV footage from the area to better understand what transpired.

According to a report, a Khalistani separatist has been linked to the shooting incident. However, Surrey Police spokesperson Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton stated that the investigation is still in its early stages.

“Connections to other incidents and potential motives are being examined,” Houghton said. “Once that’s done, we’ll have a better idea of what happened.”
