Tomorrowland Stage Catches Fire, Burns Down Just Before Festival Opening

Massive Blaze Destroys Tomorrowland Stage Ahead of Festival Kickoff:

A massive fire engulfed Tomorrowland’s main stage just two days before the world-renowned electronic music festival was set to begin in Boom, Belgium. The blaze tore through the elaborate “World of Orbyz”-themed structure, with dramatic videos capturing flames and fireworks erupting within the inferno—though it remains unclear whether the fireworks triggered the fire.

Approximately 1,000 staff members were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported, despite the stage being declared “completely destroyed.” Thick plumes of black smoke filled the sky, prompting authorities to urge local residents to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.

Over 50 firefighters from Boom and nearby Antwerp responded swiftly, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to the adjacent wooded areas. Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen emphasized that safety remains the festival’s highest priority, with close coordination underway between organizers and emergency services. Boom’s mayor, Jeroen Baert, also returned early from his vacation in Germany to personally oversee the situation.

This incident marks Tomorrowland’s second major stage fire — the first occurring in 2017 at its Barcelona satellite event, where 22,000 attendees were evacuated just hours before Steve Aoki’s scheduled performance.

In the current case, eyewitnesses reported that the fire appeared to start during pyrotechnic testing on the right side of the stage, although officials have yet to confirm the exact cause.

With just days to go before the festival’s scheduled opening, Tomorrowland now faces a critical test of its resilience as teams evaluate whether reconstruction can be completed in time for Friday’s launch.
