Best TV shows of the 1990s

So you remember the eagerness we all had while waiting for our favorite TV show to start? Coming back from school and sitting right in front of the TV to see the funny shows? 90s was the best television era of all times. We had shows for all age groups with a crisp story combined with an interesting plot. They were witty and intriguing. They were meant for the whole family to sit together and enjoy a laugh. They had a unique charm and still hold a special place in our heart.

We were lucky to have grown up in the 90s and got to witness some amazing small screen dramas. So we at AAW decided to take you down the memory lane and have a nostalgic trip to our childhood. Here is a list of 10 shows that had us all glued to our TV sets:

  1. Dekh Bhai Dekh (1993):

The show featured a quirky family who stayed together regardless of all the problems. it had  the perfect comedy timings and won hearts of all its viewers. It showcased three generations living together in a huge bungalow, trying to make it day after day. The show was directed by none other than Jaya Bachchan.

  1. Hum Paanch (1995):

The perfect comedy with 5 daughters , an irritating wife,  talking portrait of the dead first wife, and a poor husband trying to survive the female dominance in his house. It was a hilarious show, displaying girl power.

  1. Hip Hip Hurray (1998):

This teen drama was based on the lives of 12th standard students. It showed their failures, relationship problems and success. The show was fun to watch changed the perspective of a lot of its viewers. It was also a launching pad for a lot of TV stars.

  1. Tu Tu Main Main (1994):

The show had the perfect combination of a dominant mother- in- law and an equally energetic daughter- in- law. It showed the relationship of hate and love between them in a comic way. This show added an edge to the ‘sass- bahu’ bickering.

  1. Shaktiman (1997):

The show narrated the interesting story of our favorite superhero who tried to balance a normal life while saving the world from evil. It taught us  to be good wit others. It also made all 90s kid buy the Shaktiman costume and enact a scene or two.

  1. Flop Show (1991):

This sitcom was super amazing. It was a parody of problems faced by a common man in India at that time.The star if the show was Jaspal Bhatti. Although the show only aired 10 episodes but it made a special place in our heart.

The sitcom had a witty story of corruption and bribery in government office. They showed how a common man had to get his way with the officials in a funny way. The show also won the ‘Best Comedy’ award in 2001.

  1. Khichdi (2002):

It was about a typical Gujarati joint family issues who lived in an old ancestral mansion. The show relied on its poker face comedy and the witty lines used in the show became very popular. It gave us a sneak peek at the lighter side of an Indian joint family. The character of Hansa was epic.

  1. Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004):

This show revolved around an upper class family residing in Mumbai.  The mother in-law and daughter-in-law were two different personalities and there were humorous conflict between them due to Monisha’s middle-class background.  The poems of the younger son Roshesh were very funny.

  1. Shanti (1994):

It is series that showed the life of a dysfunctional family. It revolved around two friends in the biggest Bollywood production house of the country, who have dark secrets following them from their past.
