Extraordinary actor Irrfan Khan passes away at 54 after battling with neuroendocrine tumor:

Actor Irrfan Khan has passed away at the age of 54, after being admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. As per reports, he was under observation for colon infection. The actor was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor in 2018 and was undergoing treatment in abroad. Irrfan was admitted to the ICU on April 28 following a colon infection. However, the actor’s health worsened, and he took his last breath on April 29.

The actor’s representatives shared the news with a statement:

‘I trust, I have surrendered,’ these were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, ‘As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it’.

After being diagnosed with the tumor he took life as it came and fought many battles along with the love and support of his family and friends. Today he left for his heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own.

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar also shared the news of Irrfan’s demise on Twitter. He tweeted, “My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om Shanti. Irfaan Khan salute.”

He used to travel to London frequently for treatment ever since he was diagnosed with a tumor. Irrfan was even unable to promote his last release, Angrezi Medium, due to his illness.

Irrfan also lost his mother on weekend and attended the funeral through video call due to nationwide lockdown.

Before his last film release, the actor shared an empowering video message for his fans, stating that the only choice he had was to remain positive. “One doesn’t have any other choice but to remain positive. Whether you are able to make lemonade in such situations is entirely up to you. We’ve made this film with the same sort of positivity. I hope this film is able to make you laugh and cry in equal measure.”

Bollywood mourns the death of Irrfan Khan:

Irrfan Khan made his acting debut in 1988 with Salaam Bombay. After struggling for years, he finally got success. In a career spanning over three decades, Irrfan Khan did over 5o Indian films and even won a National award and four Filmfare awards. In 2011, Irrfan was honored with the Padma Shri by the government of India for his significant contribution to arts and cinema.

Irrfan is survived by wife Sutapa Sikdar and his two children, Babil and Ayan.
