MDH owner Mahashay Dharampal Gulati passes away at 98! 

Business tycoon Mahashay Dharampal Gulati passed away at the age of 98: 

Mr.Gulati who was called the grand old man of spices, died this morning. As per reports, he was in hospital in Delhi for weeks and he died because of a cardiac arrest. Dharampal Gulati was the face of ads of MDH spices. Last year, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award. A school dropout, Dharampal Gulati joined his father’s spice business at a young age. 

After the 1947 India-Pakistan partition, he moved to India where he stayed at a refugee camp in Amritsar. After that, he moved to Delhi’s Karol Bagh where he opened a store. He launched MDH Masala as a brand in 1959.

The business did not only flourish in India but it became a distributor and exporter as well. His company exports Indian spices to various parts of the world, including the UK, Europe, UAE, Canada, etc.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia were among the first to post tributes on Twitter.

MDH, the company he reestablished in 1959, today sells 62 products available in over 150 different packages. His spices also sell worldwide.

Mr. Gulati, at 94 in 2017, became the highest-paid CEO in India in 2017. He is also known for his philanthropic work and established a 300 beds hospital in Janakpuri, New Delhi, and a number of educational institutions.
