Movie Review: Bhoothnath Returns

Bhoothnath Returns
Bhoothnath Returns

After setting the screen on fire with it’s prequel in 2008, Amitabh Bachchan and the kid gang is back for more masti and mazza with the sequel, where this super cute bhooth fights a corrupt system and leaves you with a smile on your face.

Rating: 4/5

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Parth Bhalerao (Child actor), Boman Irani and Sanjay Mishra

Director: Nitesh Tiwari

Story: The story moves ahead with Bhootnath Returns, as Bhoothnath (Amitabh Bachchan) goes to the resort like Bhoot World where all the dead are having a good time. Once Bhootnath arrives he is a joke for others as he was not able to scare anyone. Bhoothnath wants to earn his respect and goes back to earth to scare some kids. And then he meets Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao) who is a street smart lad. Soon they are a team and Bhoothnath and Akhrot decide to crack a deal after which Akhrot will make big money and help his parents. The job is to evacuate a building built by corrupt politician Jamez (Boman Irani), that is inhabited by ghosts. The ghosts refuse to leave because they were all killed because they objected the construction of the building.

An emotional Bhootnath now wants to help the ghosts which would mean taking on the corrupt politician Jamez. What follows is some great election drama which is as entertaining as the first half of the film. The idea of Bhootnath Returns is a great one and it’s a totally justified sequel unlike most Bollywood sequels.

Music Review: Party To Banti Hai, the most popular soundtrack with its Amithabh-style dancing is already a sure hit. Party With The Bhoothnath where Amitabh raps with national favourite Yo Yo Honey Sing, is already a hit at the clubs. Har Har Gange is about our nation’s political issues. The Dharavi Rap is a different song sung by kids Parth S. Bhalerao and Anish, it’s funny and cute. Overall an interesting music medley.

Why you should watch Bhoothnath Returns: The film has an interesting message among all the fun. It makes perfect sense in the current political environment as it urges one and all to vote.

Bhoothnath is a very well directed film by Nitesh Tiwari. The young, confident child actor Parth Bhalerao steals the show over Bachchan! Amitabh Bachchan surely makes the cutest Bhooth, a special mention to Boman Irani for his amazing act as the villan!

Why you should miss Bhoothnath Returns: The movie could be edited a bit better, its long length of 155 minutes can be decreased. The Yo Yo Honey Singh number is amazing but a waste as it comes in the end.
