Check out some tips for Sawan fasting:
1. Begin with a Sankalp (Intention):
Start your day by offering water to Lord Shiva and mentally taking a vow for your vrat. Keep your thoughts pure and avoid anger, gossip, or negative actions.
2. Wake Up Early & Bathe:
Preferably before sunrise. Many devotees take a bath with Ganga jal mixed in water and wear clean (preferably white or light) clothes.
3. What to Eat (Phalahar):

Stick to sattvik food only — avoid grains, pulses, onions, garlic, and regular salt. Eat:
- Sabudana (khichdi or vada)
- Fruits & dry fruits
- Kuttu or singhara atta (in puri or pakora form)
- Samak rice
- Rock salt (sendha namak) only
4. Hydration is Key:
Keep sipping water, lemon water, or coconut water through the day — especially in humid weather.

5. Offer Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva:
Use a copper vessel to offer water or milk to a Shivling. Add belpatra, dhatura, sandalwood, and white flowers if possible.
6. Chant or Listen to Shiva Mantras:
Recite or listen to:
- “Om Namah Shivaya”
- Shiv Tandav Stotra
- Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra
This builds a divine and focused mindset throughout the fast.
7. Keep the Day Calm and Focused:
Avoid unnecessary screen time, parties, or distractions. The idea is to purify body and mind — so keep calm, read spiritual texts, and spend time in introspection.
8. Break Your Fast Gently After Sunset (if partial fast):
Prefer a light fruit meal or sabudana dish. For Nirjala vrat, break it the next morning with simple sattvik food.
🧿 Bonus Tips:
- Avoid tamasic foods and harsh speech.
- Keep your environment clean and serene.
- Mondays are most powerful, but you can also fast on other Sawan days.
