No comfort in comfort food?

Here’s the real deal, that tub of ice cream you think helps in getting over your ex or a better mood does nothing actually!

Well experts say that ice-cream and chocolate doesn’t really do any favours to your mood! Contrary to our thinking, eating yourself happy with ice-cream or chocolate doesn’t actually boost your mood.

In fact researchers say, that we may simply feel better after some time regardless of what we eat. Veggies anyone? Heather Scherschel Wagner, a doctorate candidate from University of Minnesota, says, “Whether it is your comfort food, or it is a granola bar, or if you eat nothing at all, you will eventually feel better. Basically, comfort food cannot speed up that healing process.”

During the study participants were asked to pick foods which they thought would make them feel better if they were in a bad mood. They were also asked to pick foods they liked but thought could not uplift their mood. These participants were showed a 20-minute video to make them feel sad. When they were in a bad mood after watching the video they were given comfort or regular food. However, three minutes later, their mood improved, regardless of what the ate or did not eat at all!

The doctor’s remedy? Take a brisk 10-minute walk than having sugary, fatty foods!
