Google launches its very own phones; Pixel and Pixel XL

2016 has been a great year for Google. After months of waiting, on 4th October, Google launched its all new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The new phones will be replacing the iconic Nexus brand.

Google at a grand event in San Francisco, explained they wanted to enter the market with a phone which was solely Google branded. The two phones share many characteristics with classic Nexus. But Pixel is the first smartphone to come with built in Google Assistance.

This is Google’s new artificially intelligent companion. It helps Android users to search for photos from a particular time or place, play music or even make a plan. The assistance is quite similar to Siri, but due to it being powered by Google’s search engine, Google assistance will be able to answers in a more elaborately and handle more complex tasks. You can activate by saying “OK Google” or by just pressing and holding the home button.

Pixel and Pixel XL have a 5 inch and 5.5 inch touchscreen respectively. Pixel has a slightly higher resolution as compared to Pixel XL, but with a marginal difference. The rear camera in both the phones get a DXOMark rating of 89, which is the highest any phone has ever got. They even beat Apple’s iPhone 7 which got a score of 86. Pixel and Pixel XL have a 12.3 megapixel camera with the shortest capture time on any mobile camera ever.

One drawback of the phone is that it is not waterproof and shatterproof. While competing directly with Apple’s iPhone 7, Google’s new phones do not have the two unique features of iPhone 7.

Well if not waterproof, the two phones allow free unlimited cloud storage. You can store full resolution videos and images. So no more crying for storage problems. The phone comes in 3 shades- very silver, quite black and a limited addition really blue. Users also get to design their own mobile cases, or can choose from a huge variety available on Google’s new Artwork collection.

Google will start pre-ordering of the two phone on the 13th October in India. The price will start from:

Google Pixel (128GB): Rs.66,000

Google Pixel XL (32GB): Rs.67,000

Google Pixel XL (128GB): Rs.76,000
