Some of us follow a skin routine for many years believing it is the best for our skin. From excessive bleaching for fairer skin to scrubbing rigorously, but did you know many such habits can in fact deteriorate skin and lead to skin problems like fine lines or pimples? Of course this harm doesn’t happen in a day or two but it requires practicing the wrong habits we all have. So women pay attention to the 5 beauty habits you must unlearn:

Tugging the delicate eye area skin: The love of kohl and the merciless tugging of the skin around eye are to clean it is a constant battle, all women face. The area surrounding your eye has the thinnest skin and the first to reflect ageing. Pulling that skin while putting contacts, applying eyeliner, or removing stubborn eye make-up can lead to quicker wear and tear on the collagen and elasticity fibres. This causes visible lines and wrinkles prematurely, so handle this delicate area with care. Use a good makeup remover, cleansing wipes and some baby oil to make sure your eye area is makeup free. Also, apply eye cream and concealers with the ring finger and pat creams or potions than rubbing them around your eye area.

Using a toner to mist skin: While misting or spraying toner on the skin is an easy to follow regime but for toning it is important to use a cotton. A toners is designed to remove cleanser, makeup and sweat residue and all the chemicals from tap water which can dehydrate and harm the skin. When you mist a toner you are simply diluting chemicals and not removing them. Also pick an alcohol-free toner, and wipe it over the skin with a cotton pad. Try the Panchpushp toner from Forest Essentials (read our review here)

Rubbing skin aggressively with a towel: After a bath do you often rub the towel on your face and skin in general? Well, that is a very bad move as it can make the skin which is soft prior to bathing loses essential oils and dry up. Rubbing a towel can also aggravate infecton, irritation and lead to early aging of skin. Use a super-absorbent towel and dab it on the skin rather than tugging your skin.

Scrubbing for too long: Scrubbing often especially for longer periods of time to remove grime, dead skin and residue, makes the skin dehydrated. Also scrubs which have a rough feel can make your skin uneven in the long run. Rubbing that scrub too aggressively on the skin may encourage irritation, stimulate melanin cells in those prone to brown spots, and lead to extra wear and tear on skin’s elasticity. Also scrubbing unclogs pores and makes sebum from your face to seep out, too much scrubbing can also lead to increased production of sebum and oily skin.

Using the same products all-year: We all do this without even realizing how weather changes affect our skin. Skin has different needs in different seasons. In spring, think of spring cleaning away the winter grime from your face with deep pore cleansing and exfoliating products to revive the skin. In summers protect your skin from the sun with sunscreen. Summer products should be light-weight. During autumn increase the exfoliation to repair summer damages skin. And in winters focus should be on increasing moisturisation and hydrating the skin.
