Magic Returns: First Look at HBO’s Harry Potter Series, Set for 2027 Release:
Production is officially underway on the new television adaptation of Harry Potter, with HBO releasing the first image of the lead actor in costume. Based on J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series, the show marks a fresh take on the wizarding world and is expected to span a decade in production.

The network confirmed on Monday that the reboot is slated to premiere in 2027. Fans were also treated to a first glimpse of the series, with a behind-the-scenes photo featuring Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter. While this serves as the first formal confirmation, HBO Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys had previously suggested that 2027 was the targeted release timeframe, according to TV Line.
Casting:

Dominic McLaughlin is set to portray Harry Potter, joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The star-studded adult cast features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost stepping into the role of Rubeus Hagrid.
The upcoming Harry Potter TV series will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire—the same location where all eight original films were shot. HBO has described the show as “a faithful adaptation of the iconic books,” with the extended series format allowing for deeper exploration of plot lines that were previously condensed for the big screen.

Producers have also unveiled key members of the production team, including several industry veterans from The Crown, such as director of photography Adriano Goldman and hair and makeup designer Cate Hall. The first season is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
