Internet Can’t Keep Calm as Ed Sheeran Drops ‘Sapphire’ with Arijit Singh

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Sapphire’ Shines with Arijit Singh’s Voice and Indian Rhythms

Global pop sensation Ed Sheeran has dropped the music video for his latest single, ‘Sapphire’, and it’s winning hearts worldwide—especially in India. Blending Western pop with vibrant Punjabi beats, the song is a true cross-cultural collaboration featuring two Indian icons: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and renowned singer Arijit Singh.

The video captures a joyful Shah Rukh Khan singing alongside Sheeran, while Arijit lends his voice to a soulful Punjabi verse. Though Sheeran had earlier hinted that Arijit assisted with the lyrics, fans were delighted to discover he actually performs on the track as well.

Shot entirely in India, the music video offers a vivid visual journey—taking viewers from the grand sets of Baahubali to the lively streets of Kolkata and Hyderabad. Ed Sheeran is seen riding local buses, dancing with locals, sipping chai at cafés, and quietly reflecting by the Hooghly River. Filmed in a point-of-view style, the video immerses fans in the experience, making them feel like they’re right there with him on this colorful adventure.

Fans on social media are having fun spotting tiny, unexpected background elements. One user joked about a Trinamool Congress (TMC) logo appearing in a frame, saying, “Bro, TMC wall paint in Ed’s song 😂😭”. Others spotted flower wall art and caf signs, excited that their city or culture made it into the video — even in small ways.

Ed Sheeran on Meeting Arijit Singh: A Musical Connection Across Continents

Taking to Instagram, Ed Sheeran shared a heartwarming story of how his collaboration with Arijit Singh came to be. Posting a video of the two riding a scooty through the streets of West Bengal, Ed wrote, “I first became aware of @arijitsingh’s music when I watched Aashiqui 2 and heard Tum Hi Ho. I was completely spellbound by his voice, the song, and that scene in the movie.”

He went on to say, “I looked him up and reached out, telling him I’d love to collaborate anytime. When he was performing in London, I joined him on stage to sing Perfect—it was an incredible show. Backstage, I played him an early version of Sapphire, and he immediately had ideas for instruments and melodies.”

Their creative exchange continued via email until Sheeran arrived in India for his tour, where the collaboration truly came to life.

‘Sapphire’ marks the third single from Ed Sheeran’s upcoming album Play, set to release on 12 September. Following tracks like Azizam and Old Phone, Sapphire emerges as his most heartfelt global tribute yet, blending cultures and emotions in a uniquely powerful way.
