AAW loves women power and this year we have the largest women contingent representing our country at Rio Olympics 2016. The first woman we are covering in our Indian women representing India at Rio is the Dipa Karmakar. Dipa is the first ever Indian female gymnast to qualify for the quadrennial mega event after 52 years from India.
Dipa who was herself surprised when she won the gold pin at the prequalifier is an underdog. This 22 year old started training when she understood that pushing her limits came naturally to her. Dipa is an artistic gymnast from Agartala in Tripura and has already won the bronze in the 2010.
Her journey is supported by GoSports which is a special organization that looks for talent all over India and helps them become great sports people.
Dipa has a flat foot which is considered a bane for gymnastic. However she is a hard-worker and has never taken no for an answer. Her skill and determination make her one of the five women in the world to try and nail the controversial Produnova an artistic gymnastics vault. Produnova vault consists of a front handspring and two front sommersaults. While many bodies want to ban the Produnova for it can be fatal in case of a mishap, Dipa has practiced this some 1000 odd times making her our biggest hope.
However, she has fared average in the main event. Update Dipa has come overall 27th in the gymnastic event and 6th In Vault. The results for the same are awaited.
