Reebok is on a roll with their new adverts, first Kangana urged us to fight back and now they are discussing one of the sad truths about employment. Women are often pushed off the ladder with measly pay citing many reasons, from marriage to being the weaker sex. The advertisement makes us all want to stand up and fight.

Here is why equal pay is important:
Over the past decades women have slowly risen above the ‘homemaker’ and ‘teacher’ titles. Women are slowly climbing towards the top notches of the corporate ladder but many industries still do not believe in equal pay. The Reebok advertorial brings out the harsh reality all women have faced during their career. Aren’t we all subjected to questions like marriage plans, baby plans? It is a way of the organizations deciding our pay and it is never equal to men, why? Don’t men have these plans too?

Bollywood doesn’t support Equal Pay too:
In fact our glamorous Bollywood has a skewed ratio, men walk off with crores along with profit sharing rights to 100 crore club movies and actresses earn a fraction. Kangana highlighted this discrepancy, a few years back when the actress charged 11 crore it became talk of the nation, our actors however never reveal how well they are paid. “My getting Rs 11 cr is a small step towards that equality. I want to be treated as an equal,” and that is exactly what Kanaga brings to the front in her Reebok video, we all need to be the change we want to see in the society.

IT companies are the worst
A recent article in a news daily also highlighted the shocking statics men get 67% more pay than most women and usually women hardly make it to the coveted top positions. In times when we are educated at par with men, work as hard, juggle office and personal lives like a pro don’t you think it is unfair? Kangana is one of the few actors who want it to change and her recent advertorial for Equal Pay with Reebok hits a raw nerve. It wants us to take charge and start a change we all have been desperately waiting for.

Much like the Reebok ad we all have our frustrations when it comes to getting our paycheck, we all meet deadlines, compete for the projects. It is bothersome when your male counterpart bags the opportunity because of his gender. Corporate organizations have a gender pay disparity of as high as 34% and the worst hit are the ‘progressive’ IT companies. Shouldn’t we start question this gap?
