Movie Review: Dedh Ishqiya

A still from the movie
A still from the movie

Being a sequel of the power-packed super hit Ishqiya, the expectations from the film are high and fortunately the film is far above it. Madhuri is back with the bang in the movie and  just like the prequel Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad have given an outstanding performance. Read our review to know how Dedh Ishqiya fares:

Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Madhuri Dixit, Arshad Warsi, Huma Qureshi, Vijay Raaz

Director: Abhishek Chaubey

Rating: 4.5/5

Story:  This time the story revolves around middle-age Begam Para (Madhuti Dixit Nene), the beautiful widow of a nawab who organises a festival of poetry in her town Mahmudabad  and announces that she will remarry the winner of the competition. There will be a shayri contest by the best nawabs possible.

Khalujan (Nasserudin) posing as the Nawab of Chandpur puts a good show in front of Begam Para and manages to charm her but things go awry as Babban(Arshad Warsi) enters the scene. Babban lands up to settle old scores with Khalujan but is soon roped in to be a part of the conspiracy.  There are lot of twists, turns and humour that make the film a great watch.

Music: The music is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics are by Gulzar. The title track Dil ka mijaaz ishqiya is sung Rahat Fateh Ali Khan the song takes you back in time to your youngster in love days. The song Hamari atariya sung by  Rekha Bhardwaj is a beautiful composition. The other songs too have done justice to the theme of the movie. The best thing is the local flavour and not funky  & popular sounds.

Why you should watch Dedh Ishqiya: The movie in many aspects is more enthralling than Ishqiya. Madhuri has acted well and has made a scintillating comeback with the movie and is the right choice after Vidya Balan.

The dialogues, screen play, sets, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi’s chemistry and costumes are an absolute delight.

Why you can miss Dedh Ishqiya: The movie is a worth a watch so don’t give it a miss.

Special mention:  The dialogues of the film are superb and our favourite is, “Yahan libaas ki kimat hai adami ki nahi. Mujhe gilas bada de, sharab kum kar de.
