Food review: Winter nights at The Groghead

The starters, loved Dio Mio pizza

Located right before the rush and traffic jams of the infamous Hauz Khaz village lies The Groghead. It is right on the main road. One chilly winter night I went with hubby to try there food. I under dressed according to winters but they nicely provided us with a coal sigdi.

Ambience: The ambience is perfect for a few drinks with a heavily wooden look, live music its one of those places you want to chill at. The roof is clearly its USP. The roof has a beautiful bar, a wooden fire oven and beautiful wooden crafted tables. This place has become the party place for many youngsters who do not want to enter HKV.

The owner told us that grid means alcohol and head stands for the neck of a beer bottle, hence the name Groghead. And they do take their alcohol seriously!

Drinks: I tried a variety of cocktails, the Naughty banaji had a strong hint of star anise and it read not my kinds. The capitalist was loved by all on our table. Coconut lovers must try the Ballerina, it was a hot on our table. The paantini is for paan lovers and is served beautifully. I had a pink drink Blink Queen completely girly chic to look at.

Food: The food is apologetically comfort food with huge portion sizes clearly to be enjoyed with the drinks. The shrimp shooters were the biggest hit on our table. The Persian Jujhej kebabs was nice and worth a try.

The kebab mein haddi is passable but the accompanying yellow chilli did not match the kebabs. The twizza is supposed to be like bread pizza sticks but they taste like soup sticks with dips.

The winter made me pick their soup. A beer, cheddar and chicken soup which had chunks of chicken and cheese in a fragrant comforting bowl of soup and the night looked up!

The Dio Mio pizza was the best pizza I have in a while. With bits of bacon, slices of pepperoni, olives, chorizo, capers and yummy cheese it is a delight.

Aubergines Farcie is slices of bringal stuffed with cheese and scarmoza. Its much like a crispy cheese lasagna if I must compare. But its beautiful, the cherry tomato ragout adds a little bit of much needed gravy to the dish.

Sign of Four is basically a heavenly mix of four cheeses and simply tasty. It is served on a bed of tomato based sauce that blends through the cheese. There is accompanying rice with capsicum that again do not let the cheese get heavy.

Sinful desserts at The Groghead

The deserts are outstanding. Believe me you would want to save space in your tummy for them. The O!O! O! Orgasm on order is a sinful rich warm chocolate cake topped with melted vanilla ice cream and nuts. Its a heavenly mix.

They also have an interesting cocktail based dessert called Mojito On a Plate that has vanilla ice cream infused with lemon, white rum and mint and it is served on sugar, topped with an orange glaze which cuts though the alcohol and gives a stunning effect.

Must try: The pizza, cocktails, soup, desserts and the vegetarian main course. The starters were a bit of a disappointment but the desserts make up for it.

Service: The service was slow but it was a bloggers night so I cannot judge the service much.
