Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari of Aashiqui 2 fame was arrested on Thursday for rape after a woman accused him of getting intimate with her. She also said he made false promises of marriage. His elder brother and manager, Ankur, was also arrested for threatening the woman but was later released on bail.
The complainant, aged 28, is a single mother and the police said Ankit (24) met her two years ago. But things took a nasty turn when on July 21, 2013, Ankit forced her to drink liquor and took her to the bedroom on the pretext of discussing something important and allegedly raped her, the police accuse.
A month later, Ankit visited their residence again and when the complainant’s sister asked him to marry her he, in full Bollywood style, picked up vermillion from a temple inside the house and put it on the complainant. After this he forcefully got physical with the complainant and did not want to make their marriage legal by registering it,
But Ankit’s family allege conspiracy and say he met the woman during Durga Puja in 2012 and he later came to know she was a divorcee and had a daughter. He wanted out of the relationship, but she started threatening him and has now filed a false complaint to frame Ankit.
