From Alia Bhatt to Kareena Kapoor, all Bollywood beauties are going gaga over top knots. Top knot looks classy and is super easy to make. A top knot looks good on almost all face structures. If your face is on the heavier side, leave your bangs or fringe out. A top knot is super easy to maintain and helps hide greasy summer hair and provides much relief from sweltering heat.

Here are a few ways to make sure you get that top knot right:

1.       Place it perfectly: Placement is the key to get your top knot look perfect, too much at the back and it will fall or loosen itself. Always place it at the top of your head, a bit towards the front to make sure it looks perfect.

2.       Use the right accessories: Tie your hair with elastics, use a sock bun if your hair are too thin, use as many hair pins you want to achieve that sleek and perfect look. Make sure to use a smoothening product or serum beforehand and a hairspray later on.

3.       The right hair texture: A top knot with flyaway hair will look messy. Try to make sure yur hair are frizz free and well combed. Also try making your top knot in a day old hair as the oil will make them easier to manage.

4.       Backcomb thin hair:  Your pony looks flat and hence makes for a small knot? Well make a ponytail at the top of your head and backcomb all the hair in the pony to create lots of volume and you will now get a supersized top knot.

5.       Try different styles: A top knot doesn’t mean it’s a classic hair bun, try making one with braids, a hair donut or voluminous styling. A sleek top knot looks perfect with formal dresses or for formal events, whereas a messy do looks great for casual brunches.

6.       Comb well: Combing your back hair to the top properly is one of the biggest challenges. To make this easier flip you head forward and comb your hair towards the centre of your head with a damp comb. This will make sure your back hair look sleeker and well combed. Have frizzy or unmanageable hair? Rub in a bit of hair gel or mousse on them before you do a final comb.

7.       Accessories well: A top knot calls for some statement earrings or neckpiece which will hold the centre stage as your hair are tied up. Make sure to pick one beautiful piece and let it stand out.

8.       How to make the easiest top knot:

Brush out your hair to remove all knots.

Flip your head over and pull your hair in a high ponytail at the top of your head. Secure with a hair tie. (Use a black one to make sure it mixes with your hair colour.

Twist, braid, or simply wrap your ponytail hair around the hair tie to create a smooth “knot” and secure with another hair tie.

Use bobby pins to secure any loose pieces.

Spray a little bit of hairspray and smooth out any frizz.
