When the popular Gurgaon eatery Sodabottleopenerwala decided to open its doors in Khan Market, I was elated and couldn’t wait to try the popular Parsi cuisine. While my experience of Parsi food was limited to their popular eggs and I really wanted to try more as Parsi cuisine is slowly gaining back its popularity all thanks to its beautiful dishes and lip smacking curries. I have been to this place twice now.

Meal for two: Around 2000

Ambience: The eatery offers a great ambience with its varied kitchy knick knacks. From a small engine that runs on the roof to a fountain which looks like a copper tap. You have old world Parsi charm with many interesting surnames and paraphernalia

that is used to decorate the place. Sodabottleopenerwala can be described as quirky and refreshing.

Service: The staff is very polite, quick and courteous. They help you out while ordering so that you can pick what you like and our server also told us that we were over-ordering and would not be able to have those many mains! Which was great.

Food: The food is unapologetically Parsi and its basically a menu that revolves around the same. The drinks, starters and main course all offer something different.

Their cold coffee is one of the best I have had. It’s strong and the milk has this heavy quality to it.

The dhansak a quintessential Parsi dish is amazing. But what gets me buzzing for a return to this joint is their succulent Chicken Berry Pulao. It has crispy fried onion on top with some fried cranberry. The base has chicken covered with rice. Interestingly the dish looks dry when it comes but the chicken has enough gravy to add flavour to the rice without dunking the whole thing into curry. The Sali chicken served with Pao is beyond yum.

The lemon soda is something I would like to have daily in summers. This is a refreshing take on nimbu pani. It has more than just lemon. There are mint leaves and chunks of tamarind which make this a beautiful drink. The cranberry drink was a big miss its too sour, the kinds which can make you end up with a sore throat. The portion size is good.

The 5 star brownies make me drool even when I think about it.

Must Try:  Most of their menu!
