Contouring has become synonymous with makeup nowadays what started with cheek, then went to full face, later cleavage and now the all new rage is lip contouring. Lip contouring as a trend talks about faking a lush sexy pout. Kylie Jenner with her bottle challenge started lip contouring and has now launched a special pencil and lipstick line for the same.
Lip contours work in puckering up your pout and achieving the perfect look without resorting to silicone.
You will need:
- A lip balm
- A primer, lip primer works best but a regular silicone based primer will do its job too
- A lip pencil (a shade darker than your lipstick)
- A lip shade
- A gloss (Preferably in the same shade)
- A highlighter
- Lip colour: While the Kylie lip kits are selling off abroad like crazy, they come at an expensive price of 3800 INR at a few online stores with a waiting list of 20-30 days!
Steps to achieve a lip contour:
- Apply a small dab of lip balm. This will ensure your lips remain hydrated. However if you over apply be ready for flaking.
- Prime your lips with a lip primer or a dot of regular primer. Let it rest for a few seconds.
- Now pick the lip liner and apply it a few centimeters above your lip line. Go slow and be neat.
- Slowly add ridges (see photo) to create an illusion of plumpness.
- Apply your lipstick.
- Now apply a small dot of gloss right in the center if you want to make your lips look fuller.
- Apply some highlighter on your cupids bow and get ready to pout pretty!
A few things to keep in mind when lip contouring:
=> Darker colours mean thinner lips, so a dark colour will never contour well.
=> Quality is everything. You need a strong long-lasting lip liner to get this look to stay.
=> Lip contouring needs rechecking time to time, so keep a mirror and lip products handy.
