The blingy clothes, the non-stop shopping binges, the excitement of you marriage and before you know it you have gone overboard with shopping. Anyone can end up over-spending and buy too many clothes for the wedding trousseau.  We at Aaw help you decide what all to shop and what not .

You will gain some weight: Post marriage the diet and exercise regime goes for a toss. The over indulgence of exotic food during the honeymoon and visits to the number of dinners aren’t really going to help you.  So the best bet is to get only a few of those heavy suits and blouses made. “I got all my suits, petticoats and blouses switched. They got tight in just two months and refitting never gives the garment its earlier grace! Eventually I had to give them all to my sister,” remembers Avni Singh, who got married in 2011.

Smart stitching: So get only a few key pieces stitched, ideally 5 salwar-suits 3 formal heavy ones for the dinners and family get-togethers. Getting a few blouses and petticoats in basic colours is a good idea or tell your tailor or your boutique aunty to makeBombay cut blouses for you. The beauty of  cut blouse is that you can get it altered from a particular body area like arms or waist.

Go low on the bling: seeing all the TV soaps may make you think blingy bahu is a good idea. But trust us it spells just the same way as TV soaps: trying too hard! Buy classy, graceful pieces that will last you a lifetime, which a Kareena Kapoor copy sari won’t! Pick an eclectic mix of super traditional ones like kantha, kanjiverams and a few new styles like the lengha sari. Try not to buy a lot of net, it is overpriced and looks gross once you gain even an inch.

Buy some smart casuals: Indian single pieces are a good idea. Biba, W and many other brands make basic mix and match stuff that can be used for daily wear. If you must wear a proper suit, please buy soft, subtle colours with very little or no embroidery. Once the wedding frenzy is over you might not want to wear that fuchsia and orange sequined suit!

Hope this small list helps you think twice before investing in your trousseau. But its justified to go overboard once in a while after all its your dream wedding.
