The new trend in the fitness world are activity trackers. The market has been flooding with different types of activity trackers, ranging from Fitbit to Nike fuel band. People who have been on a fitness journey are swearing by these activity trackers. These bands are highly fashionable and people wear them everywhere.

Recent studies have shown that activity trackers might not be a reliable source for weight loss as they claim to be. The study says that people should now switch to a better and a more accurate monitoring tool. All the participants were put on a low calorie diet, were given physical activities and received group counselling sessions on nutrition and fitness. Half got to wear an activity tracker were as the other half didn’t.  They all were put on a 24 month trial.

 

The study concluded that, people who do not wear an activity tracker showed almost twice the weight loss than those who wore one. A person who wore the band showed an average loss of 7.7 pounds, whereas the others showed an average loss of 13 pounds.

This is a big reality check for all of us. Researchers also said that when on a fitness journey, it is important to have behavioral counselling on diet and physical activity. One should have knowledge about counting calories or what suits their body the most.

Hence, not everything gets easy with technology. Something’s are best in the conventional way. We hope this helps you to understand that the activity tracker on your wrist might not be worth it. So forget what it says, find a different approach to track your fitness.
